Woman awarded €30k

A woman has been awarded €30,000 at the High Court after suffering extensive burns to her face during laser treatment in a beauty salon.

The incident occurred in July 2011 when the woman went to the salon to have laser treatment on her cheeks. She had started to feel pain in her cheeks shortly after. When the pain got worse, she went to see her GP. The woman was put on antibiotics and was out of work for ten days. She claimed that the treatment was below standard and performed using improper equipment.

The woman said that her cheeks have now fully healed but can be sensitive at times.

The judge noted a report from the woman’s GP as well as a report from a plastic surgeon which said there had been a subtle change to her pigmentation. The judge accepted that the injury should not have happened and awarded the woman damages of €30k.
